The Podcast
We are both film fans and enjoy talking and reading about our favorite films, much like everyone does. We listen to a lot of podcasts on film and enjoy them. But as librarians and students of history, we found something lacking in the current podcasts - the history of a film.
I know my favorite part of any podcast is when they spend a couple minutes, if that, diving into the background of a director, crazy production story, an actor's personality and reasons for shooting a film... Those are the best in our opinion but are few and far between on most podcasts we listen to. So, instead of whining about it, we decided to start our own podcast that focuses on those interesting backstories.
Each episode seeks to understand the film in its entirety, from the moment the idea came into existence, through the production of the film, all the different people that were involved with the making of a film, and then moving right through to today and looking at a film's legacy. Each film will be heavily researched to the best of our ability and it is our goal to provide a list of sources for each episode. It will be as in depth as we can possibly make it.
When doing something this in depth though, it means you spend a lot of time preparing for the podcast and we're finding, we have way more information than we can possibly cover in a 60-90 minute show. So, consider the podcast the introduction to our research and the film. We will cover the surface and tell a few unique stories. If you hear about something you really want to know more about, check out our Substack for in depth articles complete with sources about select topics regarding the film we covered. By supporting us through Substack, you ensure that we can keep researching and keep recording shows into the future.

The Hosts
A husband/wife librarian duo, we love film of all types from featured length films, shorts, and TV shows spanning the entire history of film production. Our interests vary somewhat from each other, but we like to think they compliment each other nicely. Because of our often varied interests and views, we have tried to indicate as much as possible in the podcast and our reviews as to who the views belong to - Lacey or Adam.
Adam is an academic librarian who has loved film as long as he can remember. Spending hours as a kid watching Indiana Jones, Rambo, John Wayne, and a late night local horror show that featured classic horror films, he has a wide interest when it comes to film. He is also a collector of sorts, spending way to much money on blu-rays, DVDs, Laserdiscs, and pretty much anything associated with film and movies. Don't ask what his favorites are because that is akin to having a parent pick out their favorite child. You may have one, but you'll never admit it.

Frank, the official mascot and inspiration behind everything we do. Frank's favorite films are the ones that are quiet, allowing him to sleep and don't shake the floor making it sound like thunder. He hates thunder. Thus, Frank's favorite films are typically classic films, old TV shows, and mysteries.
We thought about getting him a Letterboxd account but he refused. Sorry. |
The reviews
The different reviews you find on this website, our social media, and our podcast are ours and ours alone. They have no bearing on our places of employment or anything else other than what we like and don't like about film. If we offend you, you have our sincerest apologies. If you disagree with us, well, that's life I guess. Film is a personal matter and this is our personal takes on the films we watch and enjoy. Have fun with it but please, don't take it too seriously. We're not professionals or anything.
